Genuine Diamonds

Genuine diamond come in many shapes and colors too! Genuine diamonds are millions of years old, and they are found no less than 500 miles down in the earth. There are more than 130 diamond mines worldwide with Aikhal in  Russia being the biggest and Ekati in Canada is also a large mine. Most diamond mines last no more than 30 years on average. Each rough diamond that comes out of a mine is hand selected for cutting/faceting. India is the highest producer of cutting /faceting in the world. The technology behind it is amazing. Each diamond has its own "birthmarks" or inclusions which are distinguishable from each diamond as no two are exactly alike. It is truly a "one-of -a-kind" stone.

There are many cut shapes to a stone with round and oval being the most sought after in the market at this time (2024) . The round brilliant cut is what most people are familiar with 57 facets adorning this diamond.

Laboratory Grown Diamonds

Laboratory grown or "Lab Grown" diamonds have been around since the 1950's when GE decided to hopefully make things less expensive and the need for small industrial diamonds was growing. The machine they used was massive and the small diamonds that were produced were not gem quality, but used for industrial purposes ( think diamond discs for sanding).  Things have changed in the last 25 years. Now Lab grown diamonds are created using two methods : High pressure high temperature (HPHT) and chemical vapor deposition (CVD). Both methods can be used to produce high-quality lab grown diamonds that are chemically, physically, and optically indistinguishable from natural diamonds. Each diamond takes a couple weeks to make, and they are majority the same diamond throughout as they are mass produced. The cost of producing these diamonds can be expensive as they use alot of electricity to run the many machines.
